Linux History in Short

# Linux comes from UNIX Operating System.

# Unix implemented on 1960's.

# Unix released on 1970's by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie

# In 1984 Richard stallman started writing a GNU project.GNU project is developed to complete Unix
like OS,which is a free software.

# Free Software is a matter of the user's freedom to run, copy, distribute, studying, change and improve
the software.More precisely,it refers to four kinds of freedom
  • Freedom 0   Freedom to run the program, for any purpose.
  • Freedom 1   Freedom to study how the program works and adapt it to your needs.
  • Freedom 2   Freedom to re-distribute copies,so you can help your neighbour.
  • Freedom 3   Freedom to improve the program and release your improvements to the public,so that the whole community benefits.
# GNU stands for "Gnu's Not Unix"

# In 1991 Linus Torvalds invented Linux.

# Linus Torvalds who developed Linux Kernal.

# Thus GNU is used with the kernal Linux. The contribution of GNU and Linux is the GNU/Linux
operating system sometimes this combination is incorrectly called as Linux.

# Linux kernal + GNU of Unix = Linux OS   or   in other words Unix like OS based on Linux Kernal.
